To the 1957 My Man Godfrey remake, I say, NO!
David Niven? NO!
June Allyson?!?
NO!
Oh, so hideous. So hideous. June Allyson looked and sounded like an elderly burn victim, and David Niven seemed better suited as the bum than the sophisticated man-about-town!
NO!!!
I was stunned by how little charisma, humour, sexual energy, verve, style, or class there was in the entire cast, even when judged on its own merits. It seemed like Niven was cosmically burned out, Morse coding his performance in for the paycheck alone, and that Allyson had been forcefully inserted into the role, like a dodecahedron smushed into a very, very (very-very-very-very-oh-so-very), tiny, oblong hole. Someone was desperate for a buck, or a filler role for a fading career. Bet.
Please, for the love of everything sacred, save yourself. It's too late for me!
I can say no more. Damn. Daaaaaamn. {clears throat, spits]
